The National Health Surveillance Agency – ANVISA, Brazil’s port health authority, has updated the sanitary measures that must be adopted by national port facilities and all vessels operating in Brazilian waters in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
ANVISA’s broad Technical Note no.5/2021, published on 30 April 2021, provides definitions, guidance on the use of PPE and general recommendations for port authorities and operators, service providers, shipping companies, vessels, leisure boats and platforms. The Technical Note is complemented by a set of specific protocols and guidelines, mostly in Portuguese, namely:
- Protocol for detecting and responding to suspected cases at ports, airports, and borders (March 2020)
- Guidelines on sanitary measures for aircrews (Abril 2020)
- Protocol for quarantining vessels with confirmed cases (April 2020)
- Protocol for quarantining travellers in hotels (April 2020)
