DPC Maritime Law Workshop

The Brazilian Navy’s Directorate of Ports and Coasts (DPC), in partnership with the Brazilian Maritime Law Association (ABDM), held its 2nd Maritime Law Workshop at DPC premises in Rio de Janeiro on 4 May 2017.

The event covered such matters as P&I Clubs and the International Group of P&I, shipowners’ limitation of liability under Brazilian law and wreck removal liabilities, among other topics. It was attended by the Director of Ports and Coasts, Vice-Admiral Wilson Pereira de Lima Filho, the Director of the Navy Special Prosecutor’s Office (PEM), Vice-Admiral Domingos Sávio Almeida Nogueira, judges of the Maritime Tribunal and other civil and military authorities in addition to maritime lawyers and representatives of the shipping industry. Our partner Ricardo Martins participated as a moderator in the panel about P&I Clubs and the main risks covered.

Vice-Admiral Lima Filho highlighted the importance of the maritime law to the Brazilian maritime authority and reiterated that DPC will continue supporting workshops, seminars and congresses to foster the development of maritime law in Brazil and to bring together the maritime community.
