Proinde engaged with international peers and the 12 International Group clubs at the IMO headquarters in London to discuss emerging maritime risks and casualty management
This year’s gathering marked a welcome return to the traditional four-year cycle, following pandemic-related travel restrictions earlier this decade. The International Group of P&I Clubs (IGP&I) hosted its seventh International Group Conference for P&I Correspondents (IGCC 2026) from 29 September to 1 October 2026. In a departure from previous venues, this edition welcomed over 600 delegates to the headquarters of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) on the Albert Embankment.
Under the leadership of Guy Harris, Chair of the IGP&I Correspondents Committee, the three-day programme focused on refining claims management strategies and fostering closer cooperation between global correspondents and club claims teams. Representing Proinde, managing partner Ricardo Martins (Santos) and office manager Jorge Tavares (Rio de Janeiro) travelled to London to attend the sessions. The event provided the team an opportunity to reconnect with international peers in person, review emerging maritime risks, and reinforce collaboration with the twelve member clubs comprising the International Group.

The agenda featured a range of technical and practical presentations, as well as interactive panels addressing current challenges in marine casualty management. Key specialised sessions explored pollution and regulatory exposures, operational challenges, and modern risk environments, with an emphasis on practical solutions to complex shipping incidents. Attendees also took part in a ‘Circulate & Communicate’ session aimed at bridging communication gaps and exchanging operational insights between correspondents and P&I club representatives.
Beyond the technical programme, delegates enjoyed a welcome reception at IMO headquarters and a networking dinner held at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich.
