Maritime Accidents meeting

Last Friday, The Norwegian Shipowners’ Association Brazil (ABRAN) hosted an event called “Maritime Accidents – Risk Management and Investigation Techniques”, with the support of the law firm Kincaid Mendes Vianna Advogados and the consultancy and naval engineering company Oceânica, and took place at Oceânica’s Ocean and Port Simulation Nucleus, in the city of São Paulo.

The gathering was attended by the President of the Maritime Tribunal (Admiralty Court), Vice Admiral Wilson Pereira de Lima Filho, the Commander of the 8th Naval District, Rear Admiral Claudio Henrique Mello de Almeida, representatives from the Navy’s Directorate of Ports and Coasts (DPC) and Navy’s Special Prosecutors’ Office (PEM), as well as various authorities and players from the maritime and shipping industries.

Among the speakers, our partner Ricardo Martins had the opportunity to make an introduction about the origin, formation and developments of the P&I clubs, the risks covered and the roles that they and their local correspondents play in the case of major maritime accidents.

During the event, there was a simulated exercise of a large maritime casualty at the Port of Santos giving the highly-qualified audience the opportunity to discuss techniques and procedures for the management of accidents and eventual environmental impacts.
