Temporary draft reduction at Espadarte Channel, North of Brazil

Considering the reports of local pilots finding depths lower than those featured in the relevant nautical chart, and in the absence of up-to-date bathymetric data, the Port Captaincy of the Eastern Amazon has ordered a further reduction of the draft limitation adopted at the Espadarte Channel to 11 (eleven) metres between the stretch abreast of Ponta do Taipu and Ponta do Carmo (Canal do Taipu), on the right margin of Para River.

The draft reduction in this maritime access to Belem, Vila do Conde/Barcarena and other Amazon ports in the region will remain in force for one year from 2 August 2019, when the Port Captain issued Ordinance 101/CPAOR.
