Brazil signs the Singapore Convention on Mediation

On 4 June 2021, at the UN headquarters in New York, Brazil signed the United Nations Convention on International Settlement Agreements Resulting from Mediation, thus becoming the 54^th signatory to the international treaty, otherwise known as the “Singapore Convention on Mediation”, which includes Brazil’s major trading partners such as the United States, China, and India.

The Convention drafted by the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) aims to facilitate trade by promoting mediation as a viable alternative method for resolving international disputes and for enforcing settlement agreements resulting from mediation. It was opened for signature in August 2019 and entered into force in September 2020.
