The South American P&I Correspondents Association (SAPIC) convened in London to hold its 2026 AGM and celebrate its 25th anniversary of regional service
Following attendance at the 7th International Group of P&I Clubs Correspondent Conference (IGCC 2026) in London, SAPIC members held their Annual General Meeting (AGM), marking a quarter-century of partnership in support of the maritime sector across Latin America.
As a founding member, Proinde attended the AGM at Steamship Mutual’s offices, where Joanne Sharma (Co-Head of Americas Claims), Nina Kostiuk (Correspondent Coordinator), and their team extended a warm welcome. The meeting concluded with a constructive discussion session involving correspondent managers from various Group clubs.
Established in Montevideo, Uruguay, in July 2001 by five long-established commercial P&I correspondents, SAPIC has developed into a network of 18 member firms across 11 countries. Notable achievements of this informal, not-for-profit association include the widespread enrolment in the P&IQ training programme and facilitating key Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between the International Group and local authorities.
By offering local knowledge, technical expertise, and practical support, the association maintains high standards of service for shipowners, charterers, and clubs, while actively promoting maritime education, loss prevention, casualty response, and regional marketing.

The day ended with a wine reception, where members and guests celebrated SAPIC’s milestone. The event featured acknowledgements of founding figures Beto Trigub (Pandi Liquidadores) and Carlos Augusto Cabral (Proinde). Special tributes were paid to recently retired industry supporters Lance Hebert and Kevin Sandom, alongside long-serving correspondent managers Garry Stevens, Neil Beckwitt, Steve Knagg, and Rob Cook for their longstanding commitment and friendship.
Proinde congratulates SAPIC on its silver jubilee and looks forward to further collaboration and ongoing regional excellence in support of the global maritime industry in the years ahead.
